THE FIRST INCUBATOR IN ARMENIA DEDICATED TO EDUCATION
ABOUT THE PROGRAM
The Káits Social Innovation Incubator is one of the Leadership Pathways specifically available to Teach For Armenia’s alumni (meaning, individuals who have completed our two-year Teacher Leadership Program, a.k.a. “Program”). Káits provides our alumni with the opportunity to continue building upon their experience implementing Student-Led as well as Teacher-Led Innovation Projects. Through Káits, they continue to work with students and their communities in order to co-create and co-implement innovative projects that have the potential to scale. Together, we aim to create hundreds and thousands of bright spots across the nation in order to inspire systemic transformation.
WHY KAITS?
Káits is at the forefront of innovation within the education sector, being the first of its kind in Armenia.
Káits provides an opportunity to individuals who have on-the-ground experience in our communities as teachers to innovate in order to spark change in public education.
Káits grants you an opportunity to receive mentorship and the chance to apply for seed funding in order to launch your own initiative.
TESTIMONIALS
OUR INCUBATOR CONSISTS OF THREE TRACKS:
PITCH
The PITCH track is designed for individuals who are in the initial stages of ideation. Through the PITCH track, participants receive access to a series of self-guided modules that will help them to develop their ideas. Teach For Armenia will also organize a workshop so that individuals who are completing the modules can seek clarification.
THE TOPICS OF THE SELF-GUIDED MODULES INCLUDE:
Problem Statement | Vision & Mission | Co-Creation | Theory of Change | Program, Product, or Business Model | External Research | Instructional Methodology (if applicable) | Action Plan | Storytelling | Big Bets | SMART Goals | Growth Targets | Budgeting | Establish a legal entity as a “Founder”
At the end of each academic year, individuals who are completing our Program, as well as alumni, can submit a video pitch to Teach For Armenia to be considered for the PROTOTYPE track. In the event that pitches are selected as finalists, applicants will be required to submit a comprehensive written version of the proposal along with a budget proposal using the organization’s required financial compliance documents and may be asked to do a live pitch.
PROTOTYPE
Once individuals have established a legal entity as a “Founder” and have submitted a fully formed idea through the pitch video, Teach For Armenia may select projects to continue to the PROTOTYPE track. The aim of the PROTOTYPE track is to establish “proof of concept” by creating a “minimally viable product” that can be tested. Winners will receive up to AMD 5,000,000 in order to create their prototype within 12 months.
DURING THE PROTOTYPE TRACK,
PARTICIPANTS RECEIVE COACHING AND SUPPORT IN ORDER TO:
Create a comprehensive project plan for prototype development and testing;
Develop tools to monitor and evaluate progress;
Test pilots and analyze data;
Write progress reports that establish proof of concept.
LAUNCH
Once individuals have established a “proof of concept,” a select number of projects will be selected for the LAUNCH track. Through the LAUNCH track, the Founders will receive up to AMD 10,000,000 in order to scale and cover operational costs over the period of 12 months. Through the LAUNCH track, Founders are expected to work full-time on the project. Therefore a portion of the funding can be used to cover their own wages.
Through the LAUNCH track, Founders are expected to develop a long-term strategic and expansion plan and secure the necessary funding to support initial expansion so that the idea can become self-sustaining. To help the Founders achieve this, they will receive coaching and support to:
Refine logo | Establish brand standards | Create marketing strategy | Write fundraising plan | Engage donors | Write a grant application (in English) | Create a partnership map | Draft sample HR policies
